YOUNG DESIGNER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Aim
The aim of the event is to celebrate the best of superyacht design from the boards of student and trainee designers. The competition has been designed to relate to a realistic client request in order to provide valuable practice and experience for a young designer. The result should not just be a styling exercise but a practical ‘outline design’ that is able to deliver a lifestyle appropriate to a superyacht, while the design itself, given further technical and design effort, should be possible to build.

Entries and Judging Schedule
Entries are invited from current students of yacht design and practising yacht designers who graduated from a bachelor’s degree course (or the international equivalent) in 2010 and thereafter. Entries may be submitted by individuals or by teams of up to three individuals, in which case all members of the team must meet the above entry requirements. The judges reserve the right to reject any entry that does not fully meet the requirements of the task. The entries will be judged by an international team of elite superyacht designers. Following the meeting of the judges, a list of Finalists will be posted on the event web site and the Winner will be announced at the prestigious ShowBoats Design Awards gala evening in Monaco on 22 June, when the winner will be presented with the award.

Prizes
The winning designer will receive a prize of €5,000.

Additionally, the winner and top five competition finalists will benefit from a host of incredible opportunities aimed at advancing their early design careers, including complimentary access to the two-day Superyacht Design Symposium and an all-expenses paid trip to visit Lürssen shipyards in Bremen and Rendsburg, Germany.

A further discretionary prize, awarded to the highest ranked student of yacht design, will be a two-week work experience attachment in an established yacht design office.
